I captain yachts, flew aircraft, I’ve driven limousines, large motorhomes, Uber, and Lyft so I know about driving one might say. If you need a ride nowadays the ride shares are computerized, safe, and predictable in price.
Not easy to cheat a passenger. Now when it comes to taxi’s it’s a whole other ballgame. They are in every city, at the bus terminals, train terminals, airports, and everywhere in between. You cant trust taxi drivers. I remember when I was in Paris decades ago my wife ( she was
French ) and I hailed a taxi, she brilliantly said “don’t speak English so they won’t try and take advantage of us” so I didn’t and she spoke French.
Didn’t matter, we still got ripped off. See taxi drivers are not prejudiced, they will try and take advantage of EVERYONE no matter your sex, creed, or country. At the Kiev, Ukraine airport last night there were a crowd of them all wanting a fair, Uber was not working that well so I couldn’t get a ballpark price, they wanted 600 grevenah which is around $20. I knew the fare should have been lower as the hotel was but a few miles away. Impatient, I got them down to 400 grevenah or $14 still too high but it still was not much money. I later found out the regular fare is 100 grevenah which I paid upon the return to the airport.
I know we all have to make a living and many drivers stand around for hours for a fare so I felt good, I mean Fantastic about overpaying and helping someone pay their bills. It’s the principle of overpaying as it’s not how much money you make. It’s how much money you keep. There was a taxi driver in New York I met once that was the most incredibly honest taxi driver of all time, it was an incredible story but I’ll leave it for another day. Let’s see how they are in Egypt.
