5 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Practice Self-Care While Building Their Businesses

Wearing many hats as an entrepreneur can leave you feeling burnt out. Practicing these five methods of self-care, courtesy of Be Fantastic Today’s ​​ Dr. Fantastic, even for a few minutes a day, can reduce stress and allow you to take a break from the constant flow of business activities you need to undertake to build your company.

  1. Start a Workout Routine
    Many entrepreneurs practice self-care by creating an invigorating workout routine that sets the pace for their day and affords them a bit of time to be alone and avoid thinking about work for a short while. If you don’t have an hour to spare at this point, consider a mini-routine that can afford you many of the same perks, such as improved biochemistry markers and a small amount of weight loss. Try fitting in  these exercises  for seven minutes a day to start.
  2. Learn to Meditate
    Meditating for  20 minutes  twice a day can reap benefits when it comes to increasing your mindfulness and feeling of calm. Stress is a major cause of health problems that can range from heart disease to insomnia, and it can worsen already existing conditions such as autoimmune illnesses and mood disorders. Meditation helps connect your mind to your body, and it can improve your mental and physical health when practiced properly.
  3. Assign a DBA Name to Your Business
    If you want to branch out into a different product or service — but only occasionally — consider registering your doing business as name . With a DBA name, you can essentially act as a separate company under the umbrella of your primary company. You can sell different products under an alternate name, or if your requested domain name isn’t available, you can use your DBA’s name as your website address for marketing purposes.
  4. Outsource Your Business’ Busywork
    It can be difficult to give up control if you’re one of the many entrepreneurs who suffer from a case of perfectionism, but choosing to outsource smaller parts of the business to employees or professional services can be one of the best things you can do to simplify your work hours and free up mental space that can better be devoted to other tasks. Consider hiring an accountant, a human resources consultant, or a marketing expert to take a task or two off your plate.
  5. Download Time Management Apps or Software
    If you own a business, a simple calendar on your phone or a physical day planner won’t cut it when it comes to organization. Consider downloading a to-do list app such as  Todoist Business to organize your thoughts, or utilize project management software such as Trello to manage your work schedule — and your employees’schedules, if you have a team working under you — to separate it from the rest of your life.

If you’re an entrepreneur, it can be difficult to step away from your business to care for your own needs. There may be a good deal of overlap if you own a business that you also consider your passion. Focus on creating calming hobbies, engaging in exercise, and learning to center yourself to gain a more sustainable  work-life balance and restore your peace of mind going forward.
