I love watching movies, always have and always will. I loved being in them, watching them being made and even writing a screenplay was fun. I don’t believe in criticizing them, I just want to enjoy an hour and a half of emerseing myself into the experience and forgetting about reality. Last night was The Great Gatsby, an over the top extravaganza of the high life in the 1920’s, it was Fantastic to watch and it inspired me to write this blog.
The great part for me is I can enjoy the same movies over and over again as I don’t remember the endings. I love movies based on true stories like The Founder, All the money in the World, The Aviator or The Wolf of Wall Street. I also enjoy the occasional documentary like The Revelation of the Pyramids, an incredible film everyone should see.
Movies are made from hundreds to thousands of people expert in their fields, from the writers who researched how life was like in centuries past like during Cleopatra’s time or creative writers who write futuristic movies like 2001 A Space Odyssey. The set designers, costumers, special effects and make artists, editors, incredible actors and so many other artisans who make movies so real I really admire and a1ppreciate their work. I always say if they can spend millions of dollars to make a film I can invest 90 minutes and watch it.
I love comedies like The Blues Brothers, Caddyshack and The History of the World, musicals like Moulin Rouge or The Greatest Showman and deep sea adventures like The Abyss (actually I walked the set with James Cameron and gave some advice). Special effects movies like Jurassic Park are so fun just to relax and believe you are there or go back in time and watch a western. Watching James Bond movies take you around the world to amazing locales and the beautiful women and action just make relaxing and escaping life so enjoyable.
I believe you can learn so much just by watching movies as experts in all aspects of life create them. Once made they outlive their creators and entertain many generations to come. So take some time off from your worries and stress and immerse yourself into a period piece, musical or a comedy and just enjoy the experience.
