I love witnessing random acts of kindness. I will describe what I saw the other day in Alexandria Egypt in a moment. As Dr. Fantastic I am a proponent of kindness. I ask people to make four commitments in order to improve their life and others.
First and foremost is to be kind to themselves. Being kind to oneself is accepting who and how you are, you must love yourself and think positive. The analogy I use is when on an airplane you are told if the oxygen mask drops put it on first then help others. You come first! How can you make others happy if you are not happy with yourself. Curly haired people want straight hair while straight haired people want curls. Accept yourself as you are.
Secondly be kind to all others and all creatures. Open doors for people, let strangers into traffic, say please and thank you, be on time, don’t eat endangered species or buy ivory. Don’t argue, fight, tease or belittle others, you will always regret a fight and would not engage in one even minutes later if you had the chance to go back in time.
Thirdly be kind to our environment, don’t litter or pollute. 4.5 trillion cigarette butts get thrown on the ground each year, trillions are spent each year in China scraping the gum off the streets. If we destroy our planet with plastic, trash and smog it won’t matter how happy we are.
Lastly say kind words. Words affect water, harsh words distort the molecule while kind words the water molecule keeps it’s beautiful crystalline shape. We are 70% water so yelling at others not only affects their mental state but their physical state. One of the kindest words is the word Fantastic, when spoken read or heard it makes one smile, the smile releases endorphins, dopamine and serotonin. These neuro messaging units reduce stress, you live 5 minutes longer each time you smile and an hour longer each time you laugh. So by saying Fantastic you will look better feel better, live longer, be more successful in business and in relationships, have stronger relationships and help make the world a kinder, better place.
Now for the random act of kindness I witnessed the other day in Alexandria Egypt. I was in a horse drawn carriage discovering the city when the driver pulled over and got out. I turned around to see where he was going and I filmed him hailing a taxi for a very old lady, helped her with her bags into the taxi and then helped her, it took some time but I enjoyed every minute. He did this for no other reward then self satisfaction, he did get rewarded as I gave him more money than I was supposed to. Many people will be kind when they know there is a reward, doing something for kindness sake you will always be rewarded, it’s called Karma.
The last time in Cairo I witnessed another random act of kindness, I was in the subway when a man pressed some cash into a womans hand whose husband was carrying their severely handicapped son. It was beautiful. Egyptians are very kind. Please practice random acts of kindness and try to adhere to the four commitments of the Be Fantastic Philosophy.
