How much better do you think your life would be if you had no fear. The fear of failure can be very debilitating. It can stop you from trying things or taking any risks whatsoever. Things you may really want to do, you’re more afraid of failing than you are of anything else. It limits you. This is a conditioning that you have grown up with, and it’s quite hard to overcome on your own. It’s very insidious conditioning in that you may not even recognize it yourself sometimes. You don’t want to talk to new people, because you’re too afraid of failure and then thinking that you’re not worth it. By limiting yourself you limit your whole life. So how do you overcome a fear of failure, and make a better life for yourself?
Understand what it is
Look at yourself honestly, and see where you have the greatest fear of failure. What things do you want to do, that you stop yourself from doing. Be honest with yourself. You may say to yourself that you don’t like going out to parties because the music is loud and there are too many people, but sometimes that is just an excuse. The reality is you might love to go to parties, but you’re afraid, see you make excuses that you can believe yourself. It can be anything, talking to new people, traveling, wearing new clothes, or anything. Look at what you really want to do in your heart, and then see why you’re afraid. That is the lie inside yourself that you need to overcome.
Understand success
If you really want to achieve something, you have to look at what achieving it brings, what success that is. Instead of focusing on the rocky path to get there, start focusing on the destination and how good it is. Very often we look at the rocky path and decide that it’s too difficult and we’re afraid to walk it, It’s better to focus on the destination, and the success it brings you, than the difficulty in getting there. All difficulties can be overcome, and you’ll never know if you can reach your goals unless you try.
Stay positive
If you always focus on the positive, then you will find that the negative tends to be a lot less powerful. That difficult past may not seem so difficult anymore. Try and remove all negativity from your life, and except that some things are just bad, and then make them better. You always have a choice to make life better.
Fear of failure can be a very powerful disruptor in our lives, but the most powerful way to combat that is to focus on the positive aspects. Focus on the goal and not the problems. If you fail, you have to be positive about it and just accepted, once you can accept that no matter how bad it is not as bad as you feared, then nothing can ever stop you. Be fantastic.
